eh, this is what i just wrote down, so it's kinda convoluted, and not the best writing ever. but i needed to write down the idea.
let me know what you think...
--------------------------------------------------------
he turns the key and lets the car die down. he looks out the front windshield at the snow all around him, and a large house off to the left. the house seems old to him, very old. he imagines it must have been built over a century ago. but it looks welcoming. still, he has a weird feeling in his stomach.
"come on, let?s go," sarah says next to him, already opening the car door and getting out. "they won?t forever for us," she says into the car before shutting the passenger door. the back door flies open and sarah get out her bag and then starts off toward the house.
richard lingers back in the car, unsure if he wants to follow his girlfriend. he sees her walking up to the house, and friends of her greeting her as she walks through the doorway. richard lays his hand on the door handle and opens his car.
he walks into the big entrance hall where all the people are gathered. he hardly has time to look around or spot sarah, when a woman in a dark green robe calls for silence.
"welcome, my friends. i am glad you could all make it despite the snow. please leave your jackets downstairs." her presence radiates into him. he plays with his jacket, wanting to keep it on. reluctantly he gives it up to one of the men going around collecting the jackets.
"today we are going to take the south stairwell three flights and then the west stairwell two flights to the main chamber of the bell tower."
orders everyone understood, for the whole congregation moves towards one end of the entrance hall. richard can hear people murmuring, the same few words over and over again, somewhat like a chant or prayer.
he waits, his feet glued to the floor. slowly he follows the last of the people to go up the stairwell. they are all in step with each other, and are all saying the same words over and over again, but so softly that he cannot understand what they are saying.
following the murmur, he walks up wooden steps, across a long wooden hall and then up more steps. the last flight of steps opens into a large room with wooden floors and pillows all around for people to sit on. the room is light with many windows all around, and many hallways leading out of the room, presumably to different sets of stair cases all leading to somewhere in this maze.
richard stands at the back of the room, not far from the entrance so that he can be sure that he will find his way back downstairs. in front of him the congregation is sitting on the pillows, eyes towards the woman in the green robe. richard leans against the wall, his eyes fixed upon the woman standing across the room.
**************** ****** ********** ************* *************** * *******
richard is standing in the snow in front of a delivery truck. the snow is pink. sarah is lying in front of him, along with another woman he does not know. snow is falling on them as the sky slowly starts to get darker.
the delivery guy gets out of his truck and walks back to where richard is standing. he looks at richard and then at sarah and the woman lying together in their white blanket. the guy looks up at richard, and then down at the two women again. richard looks down at the women as the delivery guy turns and stomps back to his truck.
the truck motor revs and then the truck drives off, leaving tracks in the snow.
the woman in the green robe comes running out of the house and stops next to richard.
"who let the delivery guy out of their sight and let him drive away?!?" she almost screamed back at the house to no one in particular. she look at richard and he can feel her gaze on him, but he does not respond.
richard turns away from the woman and walks back to his car, unlocks it and gets in. he starts up the car and drives away while more people pour out of the house.
richard drives as fast as he can, not noticing the countryside rushing past.

whoa... cool. sounds like a good start for something dark and twisted
. I like the apparent bipolarity of the green-robed woman, from calm to screaming. definitely would make a good longer piece

I like the vivid imagry. "the back door flies open", "lays his hand on the door handle", "in their white blanket" "leaving tracks in the snow". Very clear without being 'wordy'
Is this from a real dream? I've been to some non-euclidean buildings (ie: not 3-dimensional) in my dreams too. It's interesting how in the dream you often understand how this impossible thing works, but of course it makes no sense when you wake up.
